Very’s CEO, Ryan Prosser, was recently featured in an article from Business Insider providing tips for leaders new to managing remote teams amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Ryan’s been leading Very for several years, growing the company to meet rising demand for IoT products and maintaining strong relationships with his team — all while operating beyond the walls of a traditional office.
In the article, Ryan shared many of the best practices Very has adopted to become a world-class remote-only company: for example, providing each employee with a home-office stipend to outfit their ideal workspace and taking the time to build an engaging onboarding program.
Additionally, Ryan noted that as a remote leader, "rather than checking in with your team often — and interrupting their heads-down focus time — I recommend having a single weekly checkpoint with each member of your team. Collect all of your items into one list and have them do the same. Also, utilize tools to allow you to check in on them without bothering them."
Ultimately, Ryan encouraged optimism for companies transitioning to a remote structure, saying, "it'll yield some challenges, but times of change bring great opportunity."
