Very’s CEO, Ryan Prosser, was recently interviewed in a Digital Journal article, “Q&A: How IoT engineers are attacking the COVID-19 pandemic,” sharing how engineers from Very are contributing their time and skills to the GitLab Medtronic Openventilator project.

About the Publication

Digital Journal is a global digital media network with contributors from around the world reaching an audience of millions of monthly visitors.

The project, comprised of more than 50 engineers, is working to update, translate, and recalibrate the recently released design files for the Medtronic PB560 ventilator. The goal is to make the files – originally completed in the mid-2000s – more accessible so that ventilators can be more rapidly prototyped, tested, and approved by the FDA. Then, they can be installed in hospitals around the world to help treat patients with COVID-19.

Very’s engineers are able to use a percentage of their company hours to work on this project, in addition to their free time. Very’s experience in managing projects remotely and across asynchronous timelines is helping the project to be efficient.

“It is an extremely complex undertaking, and we are honored and humbled by the work of our teammates who joined this initiative,” Ryan said in the article. “Our engineers have provided critical project management and collaboration experience, facilitating collaboration within a rapidly expanding team and ensuring that work is not being duplicated.”
